My name is Milou. I’m a twenty something that has always done things a bit differently from the norm. Three years ago I was broke and suffered from depression. This dark time made me realize how important it was to follow my happiness. And thus I decided to start traveling the world, on a budget. I started a successful Dutch travel blog and rebranded my then failing business. Fast forward: nowadays I travel about 20 times a year, and spend a week a month abroad, financed by the income of my blog and successful business (find it here!). I even moved to London last december. Without my long-term boyfriend.

I did tell you I like to do things differently.

Now I’ve launched my English version of this blog. I believe every single of you bad ass babes deserves to live the life of their dreams. If that dream is to travel the world, I want to show you you can. Trough my blog I inspire female millennials to live a more adventurous life.

I hope you enjoy my blog!

XO Milou

Here are some FAQ:

Where are you from?
I’m from the Netherlands. I was born in Breda, which is only a short distance from the Belgian Border.

How did you start traveling?
I’ve always travelled! I have been fortunate to be born in a country with a passport that allows me to easily travel to other places, plus I thankfully have parents that always cared about traveling to different countries. As a child I spent most of my summer holidays in France, Spain or Italy.

Have you ever been to XYZ?
You can find all the countries I’ve been to on the destinations page. I’ve visited all the countries on this list, but I haven’t actually written about all of them. Some I’ve visited as a child, before I was able to hold a camera… or a pen, for that matter. Needless to say this information would be way outdated. But I still wanted to make a full list of all the countries I’ve been to!

Why haven’t you been to Asia? WHY DO YOU EVEN CALL YOURSELF TRAVEL BLOGGER?!?!

I didn’t really start to travel again until I was 21, I did very little traveling on my own before then. When I finally DID decide to travel more, I was completely broke, so very limited in where I could go. Luckily there are loads of cheap airlines in Europe, so I’ve gotten to see lots of Europe. I always tend to revisit countries as well! Back when I started traveling I wasn’t able to afford €500 flights to Asia. Nowadays I have a succesful business with employees and important clients… so it takes a lot of preparation to go away for a few months (who goes to Asia for two weeks after all?). It’s still something I really want to do, so I’m really investing in my business this year and hoping to finally go to Asia for a longer period in early 2017!

What camera do you use?
I use a Nikon D5300 with a Sigma 17-70 2.8m lens. I occasionally take pictures with my iPhone 6 for Instagram.

How do you edit your pictures?
For my Instagram pictures I like to use VSCO. For my blog I’m a Photoshop girl! I use some filters from A Beautiful Mess.

What country would you like to visit next?
Oh, everything! Currently highest on my bucketlist are Brazil, Florida, South Africa, India and Japan. In Europe: Iceland and the Greek Islands. But really… I couldn’t choose!

Would you like to visit country X?
Most likely, yes! I’m a bit of a travel slut (no shame). If you’re a destination or company and would like to invite me to come visit a destination, please email me at info [at] explorista[.]net.

How do you start a travel blog?
It can be a little overwhelming, I feel ya, girl. To help you, I’m planning on writing a few posts called ‘Succesful Travel Blogging’, on everything from setting up hosting, to choosing branding, using social media to promote yourself, and working with brands. Free, from me to you :-).
