The 28 best restaurants in Canggu you must visit
Canggu is Bali’s most popular location for digital nomads and just one of the best places to visit in Bali in general!. Its location right off the beach, surrounded by ricefields and not yet polluted by heckling street sellers and honking taxi’s, make it a comfortable place to live. The dozens of delicious restaurants, quirky cafés and gorgeous boutiques don’t exactly hurt either! It’s hipster paradise. I got to live in Canggu for two months and during that time I ate out almost every single day. That’s how I collected the 28 best cafes and best restaurants in Canggu, Bali. I can’t wait to go back and add to it!
Cafes in Canggu
Motion Café
Healthy food lovers rejoice: Motion is for you. The café is also a popular workspot for laptopjunkies, so if you bring yours, you’ll fit right in.
Address: Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong No.69B, Canggu
Mocca Café
I’m a huge fan of their smoothie bowls and their watermelon juice (so refreshing!) and the people who work here are just the absolute sweetest!
Address: Gang Nyepi, Canggu, Kuta Utara, Canggu
El Passo
This was my first favorite in Canggu, as it’s pretty close to where I was staying. The dragon fruit smoothiebowl is great, but my absolute favorite was the avocado toast with poached eggs. Plus: that view of the rice fields is to die for!
Address: Jl. By Pass Tanah Lot, Munggu, Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung
IN THE RAW
This place is great for Vegans. I think our housemate went to In the Raw every single day for a smoothie, and I had my very first Kombucha here. (It was quite tasty!)
Address: Jl. Batu Bolong No.103, Canggu
Monsieur Spoon
A cute café in French style. The coffee is good and they also serve lunch. I’d actually recommend skipping lunch (it’s not great), but instead go for the amazing pastries. Those are actually really, really good!
Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.55, Canggu
Canteen
If the amount of surfboards on the wall hasn’t given it away yet: this is a surfers favourite. It’s also a very popular place for brunch. I think I ordered a breakfast bagel here, and it was really good!
Address: Jl. Batu Mejan No.33, Canggu
Green Spot Café
This café might not have the same hipster-vibe as the other ones mentioned in this article, but the food here is great and affordable. I ordered the crumpets with mashed avocado and poached eggs and got lots of jealous stares from my friends. To be fair: all their breakfasts looked amazing too.
Address: Jl. Batu Mejan, Echo Beach, Canggu
Bali Buda
Another healthy breakfast spot, although I must say my favourite order was the carrot cake. I mean… carrot is a vegetable, so don’t judge!?!?!
Address: Canggu, North Kuta, Badung Regency, Bali 80351
Restaurants in Canggu
Berawa’s Kitchen
This is a food court with a bunch of stalls that offer all sorts of cuisines. It’s a fun option when you’re out with friends who each want different foods. I opted for the veggie burger and the cheesy fries and liked both.
Address: Jl. Raya Semat No.8, Tibubeneng
La Brisa
This is one of the hottest hangouts in Canggu. There’s often parties and events that are organised here, and when there aren’t you can chill here in the pool, or sip on a cocktail and overlook the sea. Not a cheap place, but it is pretty cool.
Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Mejan Gg. La Brisa Echo Beach, Canggu
Pizza House
I liked the chill vibe and good pizza’s. We’ve gone back here a few times. The best place to sit is in the garden.
Address: Jl. Batu Mejan, Canggu
The Lawn
One of the coolest places to watch the sunset in Canggu. Order a cocktail, swim in the pool and watch the sun set in the ocean. I also still dream about the truffle mac & cheese balls.
Address: Jl. Pura Dalem, Canggu
Old Mans Restaurant
This is where to go to party. At night it feels like all of Canggu is here, and I spent a great night dancing here. They also serve some decent burgers.
Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong, Kuta Utara, Canggu
Ji
To celebrate our anniversary, Joris took me to Ji, the best sushi-restaurant in Canggu. It is located right next to Old Man’s and The Lawn. I loved the sushi, and it’s also a great place to go around sunset. I almost felt like I had walked into this beautifully exclusive Parisian restaurant because of its décor.
Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong, Kuta Utara, Canggu
Pizza Fabbricca
If you’re looking for pizza in a more hipstery setting, this will be the place for you. Pizza is great, and I loved the open kitchen concept. Also, possibly the greatest playlist for a restaurant ever.
Address: Jl. Batu Mejan, Canggu
Pit Stop
The place to go for burgers in Canggu. I must truthfully say my experience with Pit Stop has been mixed. I’ve been there twice, and once I had the most disgusting lumpy burger I’ve ever had, but the other time I’ve had one of the best burgers in my life, so I guess it IS a bit of a gamble. If you do go, get the burger with the blue cheese. It’s not really a place to stick around and hang out, but if you’re craving burgers, this is where to go.
Address: Jl. Nelayan No.2, Canggu
La Mexicana
One of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve been to, period. La Mexicana lies on the main road, making it easily accessible. I had some delicious quesedillas, but the burrito also looked great. And can we just give a shout out to the fantastic Frida Kahlo pictures?
Address: Jl. Raya Canggu, Tibubeneng
Creamery
Ice made of liquid nitrogen? Yep, that’s what’s on offer at Creamery, which is widely considered to be the best spot for icecream in Canggu. I can’t fight that statement: my icecream with cookie dough and chocolatesauce was amazing.
Address: Jl. Pantai Berawa No.8, Tibubeneng, Bali
R.I.P: Milk & Madu
When I originally wrote this piece Milk & Madu still existed, so I’ll include it anyway in the hope the owners will rebuild it. This place is great for people with kids because of the amazing playground. I had a great pizza, and Joris had a delicious fish dish.
Address: Jl. Pantai Berawa No.52, Tibubeneng
TYGR Sushi
My sushi cravings know no bounds, so that’s how I ended up at TYGR Sushi twice. I really liked this place. It may not be the cosiest of restaurants, but the sushi is very good, and the Japanese nacho’s are absolutely spectacular.
Address: Jl. Pantai Berawa No.999X, Tibubeneng
The Shady Shack
This is one of the most popular restaurants for veggies and vegans. I ordered the vegan burger and it was tasty! My friend ordered the cashewtella cake and I can highly recommend that one too.
Address: Jl. Tanah Barak No.57, Canggu
Luigi’s Hot Pizza
Right next to Deus Ex Machina lies Luigi’s Pizza. The restaurant has a very industrial vibe as its basically a collection of shipping containers. The pizza’s are thin, crispy and yummy and on the weekends this is where the party happens. Music is played loudly during dinner as well, so it’s not the most romantic date spot, but it’s a good hang out with friends.
Address: Jalan Batu Mejan, Canggu, Kuta Utara, Canggu
Moana’s Fish Eatery
I chose to eat here because I’m not sure I had ever had Polynesian food before, and the concept of it fascinated me. I ate a fish pasta, but honestly, next time I’ll be ordering a tuna dish because those looked absolutely fabulous!
Address: Jalan Raya Batu Bolong No.28, Canggu
La Finca
On our second to last night we went for Spanish food and we did NOT regret our decisions. The tapas and wine at La Finca is fantastic, and I was an especially big fan of the mussels and the spinach croquets.
Address: Jl. Subak Sari No.77, Tibubeneng
La Baracca
You mayyyyy have noticed but I have a thing for pizza. And there’s some really great pizza on Bali. I can definitely recommend the gorgonzola and pear pizza at La Baracca, and if you sit upstairs you’ll have a great view over the ricefields.
Address: Jalan Tanah Barak No.51, Canggu
La Laguna
Recipe for success: start a restaurant and put “La” in front of it, and then it’ll surely be a hipster hotspot. I actually quite enjoyed the attention for detail in La Laguna although the whole gypsy theme is a bit questionable, ofcourse. If you can look past this, it’s really a beautifully designed place. The sunsets here are spectacular. I actually thought the food here was very underwhelming, so I’d just go here for cocktails!
Address: Jalan Pantai Kayu Putih, Berawa, Canggu
Deus Ex Machina
I forgot to take a photo here. But Deus Ex Machina is heaven for motorcycle fans, there’s some really beautiful bikes for sale here! I really liked this spot for a drink. And I believe that they even offer free tattoos if you go here for taco’s on Tuesday. Yes, really!
Address: Jl. Batu Mejan No.8, Canggu
The Avocado Factory
Another one where I forgot to take a photo. Avocady Factory is right next to Pizza Fabbrica and like the name states, this is the place to go for your avocado fix.
Address: Canggu, North Kuta, Canggu
